Farm and Lodge
ABOUT
Welcome to our farm, La Petite Ferme du Marais.
We have a small 25 hectare farm where we farm with Soay sheep (ancient breed that resembles to the wild mouflon sheep race). We also farm with Kangaroo (wallabies). All our animals are for sale and you are free to inquire using the contact form. Apart from that we have large tracts of land with forests which you can discover and with some luck see some deer or ever wild boar.
We have an eco friendly farm where visitors can come and stay for a few days or even weeks. Huge farms leave a lot of CO2 footprints and that is what we are trying to prevent. We are into alternative farming methods like farming with Soay sheep which are used for "éco-pâturage", creating forests and harvesting our own oak trees, etc. We do not use pesticides on our land and do not use fertilizer. Our forests are natural and pastures get cut once a year towards the end of summer to enable water birds to nest and insects and bees to flourish.
We recently, in 2018, created an independent lodge in a part of our farmhouse where guests can stay in the comfort on a fully functional farm in the heart of the Bresse region of Burgundy. From here guests can enjoy the calm of the countryside while discovering what the region has to offer be it historical landmarks, natural beauty, picturesque villages, wine tasting or a culinary adventures in Burgundy. Just simply ...
Take a deep breath of Burgundy

THINGS TO SEE AND DO
Burgundy wine route
From Chablis to the Mâconnais region, passing through the vineyards of Auxerre, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune or the Côte Chalonnaise, discover the landscape of the Bourgogne vineyards, whose individual and unique areas of vineyard, known as Climats, were listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites in 2015. Travel on foot, bike or horseback through the evocatively named villages (Pommard, Gevrey-Chambertin, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint Véran, Pouilly Fuissé ...) and let yourself be seduced by some of the hundred different wines of this region, which is renowned for its lifestyle. Well suited to the production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties, the Bourgogne vineyards offer a large diversity of wines, which are among the most famous in the world.
Leisure Activities
Tennis, horse riding, Cycling, walking, hiking, fishing, are all activities you can enjoy not far from here. We have our own full size petanque course where you can practice your skills in this typically French game with a glass of pastis.
Cultural Sites
A must see is the quiet traditional Burgundy town of Louhans. We also suggest you visit Chalon sur Saone between Dijon and Mâcon for a stroll around the historic centre and to see the cathedral.
One of the most important castles in the department, the Chateau de Pierre-de-Bresse, is an imposing renaissance style castle with extensive formal gardens about 13 km from here.
The town of Tourus also has an interesting centre with an abbey and several interesting historical buildings to see.
Close to here, the castle of Cormatin has several lavishly decorated and furnished rooms and is in an attractive setting surrounded by carefully maintained French-style gardens.
Between Tournus and Cormatin we also suggest you pause for a visit to the village of Brancion which has been substantially renovated in recent years and is very pleasant to explore. Close to here we also enjoyed visiting the small villages of Chapaize and Uchizy
One particular highlight of Southern Burgundy is the renowned monastery at Cluny, one of the most visited religious complexes in France and in medieval times one of the most important monastic settlements in the world. The village of Cluny is also very pretty.
You can also enjoye the riverside walk through the town of Mâcon to the south-east of Cluny.
Between Cluny and Macon we suggest you take a walk around the small village of Berzé-le-Chatel, which has several notable historic buildings including a medieval fortress which overlooks the small village (there are attractive views from the terraced gardens at the castle).
Close to here the village of Solutré-Pouilly is surrounded by the famous vineyards of the region and dominated by the Rock of Solutré, a rocky outcrop that was occupied in prehistoric times and is also classified as one of the 'grand sites of France'.
One of our favourites sites in this region is the Arboretum de Pézanin at Dompierre-les-Ormes. This extensive arboretum includes a lake and many species of trees and plants, and also the 'European Gallery of Forests and Woodlands' with a focus on explaining the importance of forests and landscapes.
West of Maçon the Chateau de Drée is one of the best examples of 18th century classical architecture in the region and the surrounding gardens are officially classified as a French 'remarkable garden'.
Passing now towards the south-west of Saone-et-Loire, be sure to visit the 12th century basilica at Paray-le-Monial. This pilgrimages site attracts more than a million visitors each year and also helps understand what the abbey at Cluny would have been like when it was first constructed.
The priory church at Anzy-le-Duc a little to the south of Paray-le-Monial is a very lovely example of 12th century roman architecture with some interesting medieval frescoes.

Most beautiful Village in France
Chateau-Chalon is a village to the north of Lons-le-Saunier in the Jura department of Franche-Comte and is about 35 km from us.. It is classified as one of the 'most beautiful villages of France and is in a very picturesque location at the heart of the Jura wine-growing region.
The Chateau-Chalon vineyards date back to their introduction by the Romans, and the local, golden-yellow wine is held in very high regard. You will have plenty of opportunities to sample and buy the local product in and around the village.
Chateau-Chalon is quite a small village but the charming unspoiled streets, the castle and the lovely views ensure it is an unmissable destination when you explore the Jura.

super !
